Message from the Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency

We would like to offer sincere congratulations for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2016. On the current state of tourism—in the past three years, inbound tourism has doubled, and as a result tourism spending has tripled. With this continued progress, we are working to establish Japan as a premier travel destination. We have been working to share the distinct charm of each area in Japan, and we turn to “power of moving images” as part of our project because short films have the ability to deliver powerful messages. Through this medium, our wish is to inspire audiences to travel, to visit the places they see on the screen. 2016 marks the 5th Tourism Awards, and we hear that there have been 612 submissions. As General, it is my hope that through these films, we are able to raise an interest and awareness for Japan’s culture, and that this in turn leads to a greater desire to travel. We wish nothing but the best to SSFF & Asia 2016 staff. We look forward to seeing an extraordinary festival this year and hope the best for your growth in the years to come.
