The 19th edition of Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), Academy Awards® accredited and one of Asia’s largest international short film festivals, was held from June 1 (Thu) to June 25 (Sun). This year we received a record number of around 9,000 submissions from more than 140 different countries and regions. In 2017 we received 20,363 festival attendees.
In 2015 we received 17,206 festival attendees. This year, with an extended screening period of almost one month. Approximately 200 films screened across the seven competition categories and special programs. The film selected as the Grand Prix winner will be eligible for nomination in one of the short film competitions at the Academy Awards® in 2017.
SSFF & ASIA, Academy Awards® accredited and one of the largest international short film festivals in Asia, was held from June 4to June 15. We received 4964 submissions from 108 different countries and regions, with around 200 of these films selected to screen. Screenings held at various venues from June 4 to June 14 and the Award Ceremony took place at Shibuya Hikarie on June 15 .
Nearly 4,000 films from over 110 different countries and regions around the world were in the running, with the cream of the crop -- some 200 titles -- being selected to screen at the festival.
2013 marks 15th anniversary for Short Shorts Film Festival and 10th for Short Shorts Film Festival Asia and these two festivals will take place simultaneously in Harajuku, Tokyo and Yokohama from May 23 till June 16, 2013. The Festival was held at Skytreetown(R) Space 634 for 4 days. On may 23rd, the very first day of the festival.
Compare to feature films, short films are capable of depicting current world trends (either social or cultural or both) with strong messages, within a limited time of production.
2011 saw the heightened need for more visual content due to the huge wave of improved visual technology such as in the new 3D imagery and the continued excitement caused by iPhone and smart phones.

Having celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008, the festival started its 11th journey at Omotesando Hills attracting new audiences and moved onto Laforet Museum, Harajuku for the second half.
