The 20th Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), a qualifying film festival for the annual Academy Awards® and one of Asia’s largest international short film festivals, will hold the “Autumn Screening 2018” (Co-organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government) in association with the 31st edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival. The event will be held over two venues: Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography .
36 short films will be screened at this annual event aimed at spreading the world of short film and supporting up-and-coming filmmakers. The lineup includes SSFF & ASIA 2018’s George Lucas Award (Grand Prix) winner “Benjamin’s Last Day at Katong Swimming Complex”, Japan Premiere Short “Family Happiness” starring Ben Whishaw (“Perfume”), directed by Alice Englert, daughter of Australian director Jane Campion, “The Second Bakery Attack” starring Kirsten Dunst, based on a novel by Haruki Murakami and directed by Carlos Cuarón (“Rudo y Cursi”), and Branded Shorts which won at Cannes Lions 2018.
You can enjoy a selection of these in each of the free 90-minute programs. Other various events will be hosted, including a seminar for creators held on October 8th (Mon), led by film director Shinichiro Ueda, known for the record breaking hit “One Cut of the Dead”. The Branded Shorts program, which focuses on company branding movies, will also be screened, and a talk event with Takuma Takasaki, an executive creative director at Dentsu Inc. will be held.
