[Ryuichi Miyakawa]

|
 |
Ryuichi is now in 7th grade; he was in 5th grade when he starred in the film. He received an announcement for the audition and that was the start of it. He didn't seem the slightest bit nervous, even in front of a large audience.
|
- How long have you been in the U.S.?

I was born in Japan, and went to LA when I was in third grade. I was in a public school for a year and a half, but since I was falling behind in my studies, I went to a Japanese school for the latter half.
- How were you picked for the role?

I received an announcement for the audition and I thought it would be fun, so I auditioned for it and got it. I never thought about being an actor but I simply thought it would be fun to take part in it. Until then, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
- How did you feel when you first read the script?

I felt sorry for Taro. But when I was playing the role, I didn't feel sorry.

What kind of part do you want to do in the future? Which do you prefer to be in? a Japanese film or an American film? |

My goal is to be like Ken Shimura. I like comedies, but a part like Taro would also be nice. I want to be in dramas too. I don't want to be in an American film because most of the roles for Japanese actors in American films are depicted in a strange way.
According to Ryuichi's mother, Ryuichi did not like bean cakes, but after the shooting he totally fell in love with them so much so that he goes out to buy them himself.

"My son is very unique, he can't do everything that others can but can do the things that other people can't. In America he was able to nurture his originality but after coming back to Japan, there was lots of pressure that he had to do what others did and so, for the first year he suffered a lot from the change."
With a buoyant personality, not unlike Taro in the film, he has a strong heart; Ryuichi has a great chance to become a great actor.
