I consider “film” an international medium that shows us that the world is full of diversity. You get a chance to learn about places you have never been, and to imagine these places from the images you see in the movies.
I believe that the main purpose of having a film festival like SSFF is to provide this kind of opportunity for us to see the world that we haven’t seen. I hope that the audience will not be mislead by a film’s biased perspective, but will appreciate the opportunity to see what’s happening in the world through movies. |

I love short films, and I also produce them myself from time to time. Joining SSFF as a member of the Jury, I have come to discover more fascinating elements of short films. By watching the selections this year, I am suddenly motivated to make another short film. I hope to see more and more short films that will take me on marvelous journeys. |

I myself thought that the official selection of shorts (pre-selected) by the committee members was excellent. I would like to congratulate all the filmmakers who participated in the festival for their talent. I understood that each short film captures the essence of its culture, country and way of thinking. In other words, all of the films share the universal values that we understand regardless of language and distance. |

I was surprised by the variety of short films that I found moving and thought-provoking. These were also high quality films. The International Competition films especially were great and I had a hard time deciding which film should be the award-winner. However, over all, I really enjoyed the entire process. |

You can always come up with criticisms of these short films, but if you shift your perspective and try looking at the brighter side of them, each film begins to speak out in its own language. Each piece was great in its own way after all. |

Bálint Kenyeres’ comment
Since its Cannes premiere, my film Before Dawn got exposed to festival and movie goers all over Europe and the American continent. Being recognized at Short Shorts hopefully makes it possible to present Before Dawn to the Japanese audience as well. Besides saying thanks to the programmers for selecting my film and expressing my feelings of honor and privilege toward the jury members, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank for making this kind of exposure possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hidetoshi Oneda’s comment
This award symbolizes for me, the people who have helped me get to where I am. I am fortunate not just in winning this award but having the love of family, friends, and peers to help me achieve it. I hope to continue to be the kind of person that deserves such love and support. Like the Navigator, I have begun the uncertain path of the artist. I hope the Short Shorts Film Festival is the continuation of where “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” ends. |

It's been a great privilege for me to be part of SSFF 2006. I was very happy and surprised to receive the Special Mention Award. It worms the heart to realize that even small-local films can reach and touch audiences on the other side of the globe.
Thank you so much for a great and unforgettable experience. |

(11:00/Drama・Experimental/Japan・France/2004) |
Atsuhiko Watanabe’s comment
This film was focused upon my fascination to the main actor, Vernon Dobtcheff. We made most of the soundtrack of this film with the sound effect remixed and inspired by his own voice. I tried to amplify improvised elements in this film, and I greatly appreciate receiving this prize. It is a good stimulus to my filmmaking.
I am looking forward to seeing you with my new film. |

It is a privilege and an honor to have received the Audience Award. I have great respect and a deep admiration for the Japanese culture, so this award is particularly dear to me. My cast and crew deserve all the recognition. And we are gracious to Short Shorts and all its dedicated committee members for their support and hard-work. I hope I will find the opportunity to bring BUNNY & CLYDO, the feature-length script, back to Japan and on the big screen for everyone. |
