"Nagomi no Tou" is an observation tower that overlooks Taketomi-jima. In 1185 (Bunji era, 2nd year), Lord Akayama, a knight-errant of the Hei clan, lost the naval battle of "Dan-no-ura," eventually washed ashore here and built a stronghold here. In 1953, Ichiwakai purchased this historical land and donated it to the village. The committee for the western area of the village gathered money for the cost and built the observation platform and named it the "Nagomi no Tou" which means roughly, the tower of tranquility. This observation area has now become a source of revenue for the village and has become a playground for children with new installations added on each year.
