We are pleased to welcome guest lecturer Masatomo Tamaru, the standard-bearer of the new-generation of short short stories. During this event, attendees can learn Mr. Tamaru’s methods for writing short short stories. Furthermore, as part of the popular SSFF & ASIA special edition, which will continue to be held this year at the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2016, Mr. Tamaru will provide hints for writing side stories based on legends and folktales.

Lecturer profile:Masatomo Tomaru

Born in1987 in Ehime prefecture.

Mr. Tamaru graduated from the Tokyo University Department of Engineering before completing his post-graduate coursework at Tokyo University’s Graduate School of Engineering. In 2011, his literary debut, “Sakura” was published in “Story Luminaire” (Kobunsha publishing). In 2012, “Umishu” won first prize in Juritsusha’s short short story contest. “Umishu” was also made into a short film starring Peace’s Naoki Matayoshi. In 2015, Mr.Tamaru made great efforts in establishing a grand prize for short short stories while also serving as chief judge. He has also been very active in his role as standard-bearer of the new-generation of short short story authors. His chief works include “Yumemaki” and “Ocean-Colored Bottle.”
