From “Tetsuo: The Iron Man” to “Fires on the Plain,” he introduces us to the power of independent producing that became the basis of the Tsukamoto world that drives the world wild!

Shinya Tsukamoto, praised by world famous directors like Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese, makes an appearance as a lecturer. He also gives us an introduction to “Fires on the Plain,” which was completely independently produced and distributed from planning to release, and received a nomination at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. Film director Shinya Tsukamoto will speak in person, answering the question “What are the ultimate independent film production techniques?” If you have inspiration and determination, then you can create films too!

Lecturer Profile: Shinya Tsukamoto (Director)

Born in 1960 in Tokyo. His major film debut, Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) won the Best Film award at Rome’s Fantafestival, and earned him a cult following both in Japan and abroad. His works include Tokyo Fist, Bullet Ballet, Gemini, the Nightmare Detective Series and Kotoko. His 2014 film Fires on the Plain, which he directed, wrote and starred in with his characteristic style, won both the Best Film and Best Actor awards at the 70th Mainichi Film Awards. He also stars in the 2016 American film, SILENCE (working title).
