SSFF & ASIA will be collaborating with KADOKAWA, publisher of the popular “Walker” tourism magazine series, to present the Community Development through Entertainment project. With guest lecturers for each of the event’s central themes “creator,” “music,” and “KADOKAWA’s 40th anniversary,” we will be exploring the exploring the power of art and moving images.

Hisanori Tsukuda
born in 1982, from Saitama
film director / creative director
Hisanori Tsukuda has directed drama programs at TV stations. Additionally, he has produced independent films as a director and a scriptwriter. He won the grand prize at WorldFest Houston International Film Festival with “Scandal”. His latest his film, “Humming”, won 6 awards including Best Film and Best Director at The 48 Hour Film Project: Tokyo. It was shown in Atlanta and was regarded the most important work out of 130 cities around the world. Furthermore, it was officially shown at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
Kota Morie
Director / CG Animator
When he was 21 years old, Kota Morie took part in the FREEDOM PROJECT and soon after, began working as a CG Animator. At 25, he began writing for a trade magazine, CGWORLD, where his articles were eventually published as a book. As a CG Animator, he took part in the creation of Amazarashi’s music video for “Natsu Wo Matte Imashita”, which won a prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival. He made his directorial debut with the music video “Express”, which won awards for the Kitakyushu Digital Creator Contest, SIGGRAPH 2013 and many more.

Nagasoe Masatsugu
Filmmaker
Born in 1979 in Tokyo
After graduating from Musashino Art University, Nagasoe worked at a video production company called Teevee Graphics. In 2008, he parted ways with the company and worked on a lot of TV commercials and music videos as a director. He then worked as an original member of N・E・W in 2009, and in January 2016, he established KICKS. He has many masterpieces to date, which include a commercial for the Xperia series, Tokyo Station’s projection mapping “TOKYO STATION VISION” and a music video for Momoiro Clover Z.

Nobuhiko Obayashi
Filmmaker
Born in 1938 in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture
When he was 3 years old, Nobuhiko found a film with a kinematoscope in his storehouse. He then began to make films through self-study. Since then, he has made many films including the Onomichi Trilogy; “Tenkosei” (’81),”The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (’83) and “Lonely Heart” (’85). After this release, he made an effort to understand Japanese culture and the warmth of traditional Japanese lives. He was concerned for the restoration of Japan after the war, where he found that materialistic things and money became the main focus.
Now, he holds events around the world where he discusses and shows his films “Casting Blossoms To The Sky’ (’11) and “Seven Weeks” (‘14). In the past, he showcased his works in NY and gave lectures at Yale and Harvard University, where he discussed a film’s potential to encourage world peace.
He received a purple ribbon medal in 2004 for The Order of the Rising Sun and Gold Rays with Rosette in 2009, and he is currently a chairman for the JAPANESE REVIVAL ASSOCIATION.
Tsuyoshi Kobayashi
Born in 1965
Tsuyoshi graduated from the Department of Economics at Sophia University. He joined Daiei Film after working for a manufacturer. In 1994, he started working in the advertising department. He took part in the advertising campaign for the Heisei GAMERA’s series trilogy “GAMERA: THE GUARDIAN OH THE UNIVERSE”. He was involved in works including “CURE”, “Hebi No Michi”, “Kumo No Hitomi”, “Pulse”, the ”One Missed Call” series,”Tomie” series, “Gamera the Brave”, “Virgin Snow” and ”Kung Fu Kid”. In 2008, he transferred to planning and production, where he produced “The Unbroken” by Setsuro Wakamatsu, “Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan” by Natsuki Seta, “Sadako 3D”, “Sadako 3D2” by Tsutomu Hanabusa, “Another” Takeshi Hurusawa, “Bilocation”, “Zero” by Mari Asato, “Sailor Suit and Machine Gun –graduation-“ by Koji Maeda and “Sadako VS Kayako” by Koji Shiraishi
Yusuke Nakagawa
Editor / Author / Critic
Yusuke was born in 1960 in Tokyo and graduated from Waseda University. He has edited and published books related to music, film and arts, and he is currently the Editor-in-chief for alpha-beta books, which has included works such as the “Classic Journal”. A lot of his works focus on classical music, Kabuki and popular songs. His recent books include “KADOKAWA PICTURES 1976-1986” (Kadokawa Bunko), “Sensou Koukyougaku” (Asahi Shimbun Publications), “Kowai Classic” (NHK Publishing) and “Olimpia To Nageki No Tenshi” (Mainichi Shimbun Publishing).

Yasunori Tamaki
Born in 1961 in Hirakata city, OsakaGraduated from Doshisha University
At KADOKAWA CORPORATION, Yasunori works as Walker’s Editor-in-chief, an Area Manager, President for Walker’s Urban Development Research, President of Kyoto City Archaeological Research Institute and a judge for Osaka Canvas.
After graduating from university, he started working at Sankei Shimbun in Osaka where he worked as a journalist for 7 years. He handled news related to police investigations in Osaka. Afterwards, he joined Hukutake Shoten (Benesse Corporation) and contributed his works to monthly women’s magazines. He also joined Kadokawa Publishing as an Editor-in-chief for Kansai Walker, Adult Walker, Tokai Walker and Kyushu Walker. While he was working for Kansai Walker, he created “KADOKAWA PICTURES 1976-1986” (Kadokawa Bunko)
Tetsuya Bessho
Actor / President of Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia
Tetsuya Bessho debuted in Hollywood in 1990 with the US-Japan film “Solar Crisis.” Since then he has performed in stage productions such as “Les Miserables,” “Nine the Musical,” and “Urinetown.” He founded Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in 1999, which he remains the president of, and received an award from the chief of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Furthermore, in 2010 he was recipient of the Iwatani Tokiko Award Encouragement Prize from the Iwatani Tokiko Foundation. Meanwhile, he assumed the position of “Visit Japan Ambassador,” part of a Japan Tourism Agency initiative, and is currently also a member of the expert panel to strengthen content at the Cabinet Secretariat’ s Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, a Goodwill Ambassador to the Qatar Friendship Fund, a City of Yokohama Committee Member, and an EIRN (film classification and rating committee) Commission Councilor. In recent years he has also been appointed as a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan “Japan House” Expert Advisory Council, and as an individual in charge of promotion for “Japan” overseas on behalf of the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan. He is a Tokyo Brand Ambassador, Recipient of the 63rd Yokohama Culture Award, and in 2015 became a “Native” Ambassador of Shimada City.
