SSFF & ASIA 2024 Award Program 1-Traces
Life is full of encounters with people, objects, and places. Friends, family, lovers, place of birth, and community. Those are the milestones and events of an important life. We have selected four unforgetable and moving shorts from among the award-winners of SSFF & ASIA 2024, including "Hedgehog's Dilemma," which won the Best Short Award in the Live Action International Competition!
SSFF & ASIA 2024 Award Program2-Path to the Future
The opportunity to change the future is right in front of our eyes. The characters open the doors to their futures by repeatedly finding and making choices. We have selected four excellent short that will give you the hope and courage to keepmoving forward, including "A Crab in the Pool," which won the Best Short Award in the Animation Competition! To commemorate the release of his feature film "HAPPYEND" which will be released on October 4th, we will also hold a special screening of the short film "The Chicken" directed by Neo Sora.
SSFF & ASIA 2024 Award Program3-Women in Focus
In conjunction with the establishment of the Tokyo International Film Festival Women's Empowerment Category, we have selected SSFF & ASIA 2024 award-winning shorts that focus on female directors and protagonists! We will screen 4 short films by female directors about friendships and family that will make you laugh, cry, and move your heart, including "Maybe Someday,'' which won the Asia International Best Short Award in the Live Action Competition.
SSFF & ASIA 2024 Award Program4-Unimaginable Challenge
The people who continue to take on challenges to make their dreams come true, to overcome their pasts, and for their precious friends and family. We will have a special screening of "Then Comes the Body'' which won the Best Short Award Award in the Nonfiction Competition, as well as the short film "Haunted by the Sound of the Wind,'' starring Rinko Kikuchi, who is this year's TIFF navigator.
Special Programs
We love Tokyo!
We have selected 3 films filled with the appeal and energy of Tokyo, including "Tokyo I Love Yous," which won the Cinematic Tokyo Competition Best Short Award/Tokyo Governor's Award!
Swiss Program
A documentary from Hiroshima that follows Johan, a Swiss man who fell in love with Japanese swords and became a swordsmith, "Johan, L'épreuve du feu'' Set in the Edo period, a supernatural love triangle comedy, "THIRD WHEEL,'' “Tokyo Rain” is set in the near future in mysterious Tokyo where it never stops raining. This year, which marks the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan, Swiss directors highlight enchanting Japan through three short films.
Korean Short Film Program
Featured will be "Stray Kids ＜樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)＞ SKZFLIX" which won the Global Spotlight Award and "Negative Space" which won the Best Actor Award (Live Action Asia International Competition), and "Seoul Switch" starring former U-KISS member Kevin Woo. A collection of Korean short films recommended by film festival staff from the SSFF & ASIA 2024 lineup!
