On October 26, the director of “Holy Curse” had a Q&A at the SSFF & ASIA 2025 Screening in Autun.

The director from India shared that the idea for the film stemmed from childhood reflections on personal identity and the gender roles imposed by society.
In a culture where gender equality and LGBTQ+ understanding are still developing, the filmmaker wanted to explore an introspective story about individuality and self-acceptance.
The shooting took only three days and went smoothly, thanks to the dedication of young lead actor Brunal Kasheet.
However, directing scenes with a child required careful handling. The uncle character was played by Alap Soni, a well-known Indian actor also active in educational TV programs on social issues—his involvement added depth to the film.

The editing process, done in collaboration with National Award–winning editor Adadi Atre, took about three months.
Funding the film was a major challenge since stories on sexual diversity remain a sensitive topic in India. The director’s mother ultimately stepped in as a producer, supporting both logistics and the crew’s meals during production.

As for the next project, the director revealed a poetic drama set in India is in development.
“Travel gives me inspiration,” she said. “Meeting new people and discovering different places always plant the seeds for new stories.”
