The winner was announced at “SSFF & ASIA 2016 Special Screening in Malaysia”
SSFF & ASIA 2016 Special Screening in Malaysia was be held
at Content Malaysia Pitching Centre, Cinematique of FINAS, last Saturday, on the 17th,
and despite the bad weather, many people showed up at the festival to enjoy short films.
This event was in its 7th year, and it included a collection of world’s finest short films
selected from Tokyo’s SSFF & ASIA 2016 which took place in June in Tokyo.
Additionally, the event organized a seminar on visual story-telling.
For the first time this year,
the event collaborated with Panasonic Malaysia
to run a short film competition locally.
Among the films submitted, there were screenings of four finalists/films.
The best short film award went to “My Ba’s Radio”, and the special mention award went to “Apps.”
We could sense the multi-cultural richness of Malaysia in the competition,
when we see that the production team of “My Ba’s Radio” is Chinese Malaysian,
and the team of “Apps” is formed mainly by the Indian Malaysian, for example.
The production team of “My Ba’s Radio” was awarded also with flight tickets to Tokyo,
to participate in the next year’s SSFF & ASIA in June.
The first competition was a success, and we hope that this competition will continue
to support the next generation of finest Malaysian filmmakers.
