Southeast Asia Program & Symposium: New column about filmmaking in Laos has been added!

photo_06Lao People’s Democratic Republic may be an area with between 47 and 68 different ethnic groups, but the film industry in this region has only just gotten off the ground.

The title of this column is “The Challenge of New Media,” and one of the subtitles is “New Wave of Movie Makers. Same Challenges.” In this piece, the problems with using SNS and the circumstances that surround film production in this region are discussed.

The columnist, Athidxay Bouandaoheaung, is manager of PADETC’s DOKLAO (Discovery of Lao Knowledge) Media Centre and runs a media program that teaches skills in news reporting and radio broadcast. He is also a coordinator for Vientianale Film Festival and co-founder of “Lao New Wave Cinema Production,” Laos’s first fully independent film production company.
