In January, we received over 600 submissions. Over the submission period since last August, we received a total 4,111 submissions for the 5 main competitions. The most submissions for International Competition were from the United States with 2,282 short films followed by submissions from France, the UK, &amp; Spain. We received a total 639 short films for the Asia International Competition with the majority of submissions from South Korea &amp; China. There were 342 submissions from Japan which surpassed last year\u2019s total. In our newly Academy Award\u00a9\ufe0e accredited Animation Competition, we received 513 submissions &amp; 335 in our Non-fiction Competition. Out of these, roughly 20% were directed by students &amp; 30% were from 1<sup>st<\/sup> time &amp; young directors. Out of our 2022 submissions, the theme that stood out the most were very intimate stories that depicted changes in family, personal, &amp; work lives that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In the Animation Competition, there were many adult-oriented shorts that depicted personal loneliness, solitude, and conflict in highly original styles that could not be depicted through live action short films. From the Non-fiction Competition submissions, there were many films with strong social themes such as environmental and racial issues, as well as stories that placed focus on a single individual and brought new discoveries through their very personal stories. And now, on the 28th of next month, we will announce our official selections!
