\"\"<\/a>La Cinemateque Francaise<\/span><\/span> is a French film organization that holds one<\/span> of the largest archives of film documents and film-related objects in the world. Based in Paris, the archive offers daily screenings of worldwide films<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span> the organization also<\/span><\/span> operates<\/span><\/span> the Mus<\/span><\/span>\u00e9<\/span><\/span>e de la Cin<\/span><\/span>\u00e9<\/span><\/span>math<\/span><\/span>\u00e8<\/span><\/span>que, formerly known as Mus<\/span><\/span>\u00e9<\/span><\/span>e du Cin<\/span><\/span>\u00e9<\/span><\/span>ma<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> In<\/span> its building,<\/span><\/span> t<\/span>he<\/span>re is a bistro\/<\/span>caf<\/span><\/span>\u00e9<\/span><\/span> “Les 400<\/span> Coups”,<\/span><\/span> named after<\/span>late French director Francois Truffaut<\/span><\/span>‘s first feature film.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Th<\/span>is screening even<\/span>t w<\/span><\/span>as h<\/span>eld as a kick<\/span>off event for SS<\/span>FF & ASIA’s 20th a<\/span>nniversary year (2018), and the aim is to promote SSFF & ASIA in Paris<\/span>, an important<\/span><\/span> siege for film industry people in Europe, as well as<\/span> strengthening<\/span> ties and communication with filmmakers who live in Paris.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

F<\/span><\/span>ive films<\/span> were presented in the screening. They were (in order of<\/span><\/span> the screening)<\/span><\/span>:\u3000<\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span>Oh Lucy<\/span><\/span>!<\/span><\/span>\uff08<\/span><\/span>Atsuko Hira<\/span><\/span>yan<\/span><\/span>agi<\/span><\/span>\uff09<\/span><\/span>“, “<\/span><\/span>663114<\/span><\/span>\uff08<\/span><\/span>Isamu Hirabayashi)<\/span><\/span>“, “<\/span><\/span>And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool (Makoto Nagahisa)<\/span><\/span>“, “<\/span><\/span> Lies<\/span>(Naomi Kawase)<\/span><\/span> ” and “<\/span><\/span>Home Away from Home (Yukinori Makabe<\/span><\/span>)”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Before the screening at 19:00 on this Monday, the tickets are<\/span><\/span> near<\/span>ly<\/span><\/span> sold-out<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and many people<\/span><\/span> came to attend the screening. We thought mo<\/span>re younger audience who<\/span><\/span> appreciate Japanese sub-culture would come to see the<\/span> screeni<\/span>ng, but<\/span> we were wrong. We saw many elder<\/span> audience<\/span> members as wel<\/span>l<\/span>. Here in Pari<\/span><\/span>s, all ages of people are very active and enthusiastic in discovering minor films.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr.<\/span> Ber<\/span><\/span>nard<\/span> Payen, the man behind<\/span> most<\/span> of the screening programs<\/span><\/span> at La Cinemateque\u3000<\/span><\/span>made a speech to the<\/span><\/span> audience about<\/span><\/span> our collaboration<\/span>. He also mentioned that the<\/span> feature film version of “Oh Lucy!” is ac<\/span>tually in cinemas all around Paris. He then introduced Seigo Tono, festival director of SS<\/span>FF & ASI<\/span>A.<\/span><\/span> Tono made a brief speech talking about the history of SSFF & ASIA<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and he thanked the audience for coming<\/span> to see the screening despite<\/span><\/span> Monday<\/span> night.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>D<\/span><\/span>uring the screening, we heard many people laugh<\/span>, and we even<\/span> heard a scream in one\u3000<\/span><\/span>of the films. A big applause was heard at<\/span><\/span> the end of each film as well. The reaction\u3000<\/span><\/span>of French<\/span> audience<\/span> was<\/span> really excellent. After the screening, some audience members came\u3000<\/span><\/span>to talk about how they got interested in Japanese cultu<\/span><\/span>re, especially about “Hon<\/span>ne”(true\u3000<\/span><\/span>feeling\uff09 and “Tatemae”(<\/span>fa<\/span><\/span>\u00e7<\/span><\/span>ade<\/span>)<\/span> in Japanese companies.<\/span> An audience s<\/span>aid that\u3000<\/span><\/span>the quality of Japanese actors in short films are very high.<\/span><\/span>So, the<\/span> Japanese short film screenin<\/span><\/span>g presented by SSFF & ASIA at La Cinemateque Francaise\u3000<\/span><\/span>was a success,<\/span> and we can tell you that<\/span><\/span> the night wasn’t over until very late<\/span><\/span> at the nearby bar<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> with filmmakers who came to see the screening<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> It<\/span> was like a small reunion\u3000<\/span><\/span>talking about their SSFF & ASIA experience in Tokyo<\/span><\/span> as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hopefully<\/span><\/span> we will come back in Paris very soon in the near future with more<\/span> latest\u3000<\/span><\/span>Japanese short films.
