Known as the site of the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, Luxor is frequently characterized as the &#8220;world&#8217;s greatest<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> open-air museum&#8221;; ruins of the temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> stand within the modern city limits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0149.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2389\" src=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0149.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0149\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0149.jpg 640w, https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0149-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Since its first edition, held in 2012, Luxor African Film Festival has been aiming to support and encourage African film productions and partnerships among countries throughout the continent. It does this by strengthening the humanitarian and political ties between the people of Africa in general, and among African artists in particular.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2390\" src=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0017.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0017\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0017.jpg 640w, https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0017-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the opening, a grand ceremony was held in front of Hatshepsut Temple in Deir el-Bchari. The ceremony began with a speech by the Egyptian minister of Culture, followed by a performance of many tribal dances originating from neighboring African countries.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0259.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2392\" src=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0259.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0259\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0259.jpg 640w, https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0259-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, two special short film programs by SSFF &amp; ASIA were screened at the festival, and a special masterclass on script writing and script construction was led by filmmaker and lecturer Yasuhiko Tanaka.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2393\" src=\"http:\/\/ssff.sakura.ne.jp\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0021.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0021\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0021.jpg 640w, https:\/\/shortshorts.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0021-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Seigo Tono, SSFF &amp; ASIA\u2019s Festival Director, also joined the African Film Festival Network Conference where he met many other film festival directors, from countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Sudan, Madagascar and Uganda.
