Lexus Short Films, who discover the creators of tomorrow and support the young talent who will create the next era of film, with permission from the American Academy Awards, has invited director Hirokazu Koreeda to be the speaker at “Road to the World”, an event where he will talk about the art of film in order for young Japanese creators to be able to work overseas. This event will be held at Asia’s largest international short film festival “Short Shorts Film Festival and Asia” (SSFF & ASIA) on the 23rd of October (Sunday). The application period is from the 12th of September (Monday) to the 4th of October (Wednesday).
To apply you must choose either the theme “fly” or “run”, then create and submit a one minute video. Participants will then be selected based on their video.
During the event, as well as lectures on the trends and measures for applying to overseas film festivals, there will also be interactive sessions; for example, participants will receive a critique of their one minute video. Furthermore, SSFF & ASIA representative Tetsuya Bessho will act as moderator and director Hirokazu will talk about his experience overseas and the mind and skill sets necessary for young domestic film makers to expand overseas.
In order to support the creators of tomorrow Lexus Short Films and SSFF & ASIA plan to carry out even more events like this in the future.

[Message from director Hirokazu]
There are still not many Japanese directors active overseas. By nature, Japanese tend to lock themselves within Japan. This is actually something I’ve always thought was a problem, so I really want to do this event. Using my experience I want to express what it is to fight on the global stage.

*This event is in Japanese only.
