In order to spread the richness of short films & to support the development of young filmmakers, we will have special
screenings of the award-winning short films from SSFF & ASIA 2020, which was held just last month, including the
Official Competitions supported by Sony , the George Lucas Award Grand Prix & the Non-fiction Competition. Those
are eligible for consideration at next year’s Academy Awards©. We will also screen newly announced Audience Award
& Best Actor Award winning shorts at the same time.
In our annual seminar, we are proud to host renown director Rikiya Imaizumi, director of films including “Sad Tea” his
2013 film which was selected for Japanese Cinema Splash at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival. As one of the
leading Japanese directors of this generation, his filmography includes the hits; “What Is Love?” (Ai Ga Nanda?), “Eine
Kleine Nachtmusik” (2019), & “mellow.” Topics for discussion will be the lack of “love” in this world.
There will be a panel discussion on with writers who have written novellas about the various areas of Japan as part of
a collaborative project with Japan Culture Expo 2019. We will also have a special screening of the “Discover Beauty”
program that features the beauty of Japan through the eyes of the world.
In our Online Screening website, we will screen the exciting & boundary-breaking animated shorts from Europe in a
collaboration with New York’s 1st animation festival, “Animated Spirits.” The animated short films using traditional
