GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE have been designated as the “Official Navigators”
for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2020!
Their song “You & I” has been named the festival’s official theme song.
SSFF & ASIA 2020 Navigators & with their song “You & I” as the official theme song, a message to everyone from GENERATIONS!
CINEMA FIGHTERS Project has evolved over the past three years.
We’ve watched films where members from LDH starred in, and we’re very impressed by the stories and expressions that are different from feature films and unique to short films.
When we were assigned as the official navigator of this year’s SSFF & ASIA, we watched short films from countries across the world for the first time.
As you can feel from this year’s SSFF & ASIA theme of “(New)Borderless”, various values, perspectives, and messages overflow from every film. Through short films, these made us realize something important afresh and gave us chances to make new discoveries that we have yet thought of.
As the official navigator, we would like to introduce this film festival where one can encounter many of such films and the attractiveness of short films to as many people as possible!
Our song “You & I” contains the message “Our heart is united even in this changing world, even if we’re apart. Let us unite.” The world is facing the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, but we would be very happy if we could bring short films from across the world to everyone in Japan through an online film festival and unite everyone as one, and if filmmakers from all over the world could get together and connect with each other online. Please listen to the song “You & I”, the theme song that supports this new type of film festival.
Our Navigators’ recommended festival program.
Hello there, this is SSFF & ASIA Navigator Alan Shirahama of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE.
The short film “Black Ghiandola” with it’s incredible cast & staff is exactly the strength of the promise of films that draws people into the cinema. To be able to see short films by Bong Joon-ho & an early short film by Taika Waititi, the director of “Jojo Rabbit,” is a very precious opportunity. I was truly inspired by director Kōji Fukuda’s short film’s cinematic quality shot on only a smart phone! After really getting into it & watching so many short films, I was so surprised when I realized that only an hour had passed!
I think you can spend a really valuable & worthy time in the world of short films. I’d love for everyone to watch these short films.

Hey everyone, this is SSFF & ASIA Navigator RYOTA KATAYOSE of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE.
I was impressed & excited by filmmakers who went ahead & made short films about the new normal in the Corona stricken world.
But I was also able to laugh at a short starring Juliet Binoche about a strict & unyielding traffic cop. Making short films from 5 to 10 minutes, some even without dialogue, that are able to work its way into your heart & mind is truly amazing. One of the biggest qualities of short films is that you can feel like you’re travelling the world by watching them.
Please enjoy the world as only you can through these short films!

Quarantine mood documents real life scenes during the quarantine in Rome, looking for the beauty and poetry of reality. I chose to tell the life I saw during the lockdown from my terrace. My eyes tried to capture all that I saw around me, which in the end was also the reflection of what I had inside.
Hi, this is SSFF & ASIA Navigator YUTA NAKATSUKA of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE.
The short film “Beauty Boys” from France depicts a teenager who lives in a small village. He likes to make himself up but is worried about the way others in the village see him. He shies away from it but an event becomes the key to bring about change. This film made me realize the importance of accepting someone as a person, not just as a man or woman by society.
What we were taught to be “normal” in the way we were brought up, is that really true?
In this way, the Shibuya Diversity Program, with its theme of “Diversity & Inclusion,” made me think hard about accepting the differences that are here in a city with a wide variety of people.
It would make me very happy if this program becomes the catalyst for people to think about these themes.

Hi everyone, this is SSFF & ASIA Navigator MANDY SEKIGUCHI of GENERATIONS FROM EXILE TRIBE.
THE Cinematic Tokyo Program shows the allure & appeal of Tokyo as seen through the eyes of directors from Japan & around the world.
My reaction was that I was able to “re-discover Tokyo.”
The little everyday scenes that we don’t realize turn into an incredible cinematic world through the hands of others.
Though I may have been living here for a long time, I felt refreshed when I was shown places that I had taken for granted.
I felt that this was a program full of short films that made me want to travel throughout Tokyo again. I’d love for everyone to see this too.

SSFF & ASIA Navigator RYUTO KAZUHARA of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE checking in here.
The CG Animation Program of the film festival is totally different from my favorite American comics but I feel like I made a new discovery. The worlds that were depicted by directors, not only from Japan & the U.S., but also from around the world were truly wonderful. I was drawn into the many means of expression that is unique to CG animation. I felt excited & thrilled by the films that showed the future. I was also moved by how the inner emotions were depicted in stories about our real world Please experience the world as seen only through stories created by CG Animation.

Hi, this is HAYATO KOMORI of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE
The Hikari TV Award in the Japan Competition is given to the Japanese director whose film best illustrates originality & great possibilities for the future. The short films that have won the award are just as good are even better than feature films.
There’s a rhythm & speed in the development of the story in the short films that you don’t see in feature films. That’s what is so fun about short films. There’s a strange sense of elation that comes from watching a scene right out of our own lives in anywhere from as short as 5 minutes to no more than 25 minutes. I’d be very happy if you could also experience these kinds of sensations & when you do, please let me know your reactions & feedback!

Hi, this is SSFF & ASIA 2020 Navigator, REO SANO of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE. The U-25 project, a program that features short films under 5 minutes made by directors under 25 years old.
I was very impressed by the films made by directors the same age or younger than myself. A short using music & animation to show the inner feelings of turmoil, a futuristic story about humans & robots in co-existence, & an excellently comedy made by a junior high student! That we can experience emotions & a connection through the drama from films in just under 5 minutes is truly wonderful & amazing.
I’d like for everyone to see & feel this youthful energy & please give me your feedback!
Reo Sano
PROFILE:In November 2012, he made his major debut as a performer of GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE. As an actor, he appeared in the dramas "GTO" and "Inpei Sousa" and played his first leading role in the movie "Rainbow Days" in 2018. He played the son of the heroine (played by Yo Yoshida) in "Hanalei Bay" released in the same year. His ephemeral presence in this movie drew tears from the audience. He is very active not only as an artist but as an actor as well.
This film expresses human life and gloomy feelings by using a drifting black spirit. Finally, the spirit will be fitting inside "me"…In the end, people pick up the things that they think will make them happy. And tend to live surrounded by them to make themselves comfortable. This is human.
