Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2020 (SSFF & ASIA 2020 ), officially recognized by the Academy Awards as one of the largest international short film festivals in Asia, will hold its opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
Now in its 22nd year, the festival has been postponed from June, when it was held every year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, it will be held from September 16 to 27 at four venues in Tokyo and will be available online for viewing everywhere in Japan. We will be screening approximately 150 films selected from 112 countries and regions around the world.
In the opening ceremony, the film festival representative Tetsuya Bessho, the festival ambassador LiLiCo, and many other guests will make their appearance. Prior to the award ceremony on September 27, Sunday, when the grand prize will be announced, we will be announcing and awarding the award winners, as well as revealing in full short film projects and their production by the film festival and other companies.
The opening ceremony, which has been held behind closed doors in the past, will be streamed live to the world this year.
