the Official Competition supported by Sony
which selects the George Lucas Award that opens the door for the Academy Awards!
Confirmed are kyōgen actor Motoya Izumi, essayist Kamiko Inuyama,
actress Mariko Tsutsui, VIMEO Senior Curator Jeffrey Bowers,
& film director Kōji Fukada.
We are proud to announce the 5 jurors for the Official Competition supported by Sony for this year’s Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2020 (SSFF & Asia 2020) held from Wednesday, 09/16 thru Sunday, 09/27. The winners of the Best Short Award of each competition becomes eligible for nomination at the following year’s Academy Awards®.
Serving as jurors are kyōgen actor Motoya Izumi (20th head of the Izumi school of kyōgen), columnist & essayist Kamiko Inuyama, actress Mariko Tsutsui, VIMEO Senior Curator Jeffrey Bowers, & film director Kōji Fukada.
Out of over 3,00 submissions from 105 countries & regions in the Official Competition supported by Sony, the jurors selected out of 71 short films the Best Short winners out of the International, Asia International, & Japan competitions & the grand prix, the George Lucas Award. The jurors will be on hand to award the prizes at the Award Ceremony held on September 27th at the Meiji Jingū Kaikan Hall.
SSFF & Asia 2020, along with the participation of Sony, a world-leading creative entertainment company with a wide range of businesses, personnel, & capabilities, supports the development of the talented young filmmakers of tomorrow. SSFF & Asia 2020 has taken another step up as a world level film festival.
We have been the recipient since our inauguration of warm messages of support from director George Lucas.
For our 20th Anniversary in 2018, we were honored to put his name to our grand prix winner as the George Lucas Award!
