Announcement of SSFF & ASIA 2025 shortlist (1st)
We will release a shortlist from among the entries for the Academy Award(R) eligible categories (Live-action Competitions, Animation Competition, and Non-fiction Competition) for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2025.
In August, we received a total of 845 entries. In particular, there were many entries from the United States, China, France, Canada, and Spain as well as entries from Guyana, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Venezuela, Costa Rica and others. 30% of the submitted films were directed by female filmmakers, 34% from first time filmmakers and 30 % were student projects.
Also 58 % were under 15 min, 28 % were under 10min, and 9 % were under 5 min. Popular theme of the works are about dramas of family conflicts, illnesses as well as discrimination, refugees, immigrants and identities.
Also, AI generated films including not only for animation, but also for voice overs, music, storyboards in pre-production, and color correction in post-production stood out.

Festival selections will be made from among the shortlisted films. The shortlist films will be selected monthly until the end of March, 2025 and will be uploaded on the festival’s official website by the end of April, 2024.This month’s shortlist is mainly for films submitted by the end of August, but the timing of the announcements may vary.
