Announcement of SSFF & ASIA 2025 Shot List vol.2
We have been releasing a shortlist from among the entries for the Academy Award® eligible categories (Live-action Competitions, Animation Competition, and Non-fiction Competition) for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2025.
In September, we received a total of 967 entries. In particular, there were many entries from the United
States, France, South Korea, China, and the United Kingdom. In addition, we received submissions from
other areas including Guatemala, Uruguay and Belarus. 24% of the submitted films were from first time
filmmakers and 26 % were student projects. Also, 30 % of the films were from the directors under 30. 45 % of them were submitted to our live-action International Competition.
Notably, films from directors in their early twenties in the International category with “coming of age” storie focused on the growth from adolescence to adulthood, embarking on a journey of self-discovery.
Regarding genre and duration, 10 % of the submitted films were comedies and 56 % were under 15 min,
22 % were under 10 min, and 8% were under 5 min. We have seen an increase of shorter films with a
good sense of humor!

Festival selections will be made from among the shortlisted films. The shortlist films will be selected
monthly until the end of March, 2025 and will be uploaded on the festival’s official website by the end of
April, 2025.This month’s shortlist is mainly for films submitted by the end of September, but the timing of
the announcements may vary.
