【Report】SSFF & ASIA 2018 in Fukuoka Opening Ceremony
The second edition of Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Fukuoka started on September 12th (Wed) in Hakozaki, Fukuoka City. The opening ceremony was held at the Hakozaki Hachiman Shrine, and one of the biggest Hakata festivals – the Hojoya Festival, also took place on the same day so the shrine was very busy and many people joined the ceremony.
After a speech made by our festival director, Seigo Tono, short films including the Oscar winning short “Sing” and the 3rd Book Short Award Winner “The Mayor’s New Clothes”, were screened and the audience enjoyed the first day of the film festival.

There was also a premiere screening of short films shot by four elementary school students at a workshop which took place in August. The workshop was held as the pre-event of the festival in August, where they learned how to shoot and edit on the first day and shoot non-dialogue films on the second day. Each student made one short film by following the instructions of director Yoshimasa Jimbo.
SSFF & ASIA 2018 in Fukuoka will continue until the end of October at five different venues. Each venue has unique events such as outdoor screenings and the introduction of local short films, so please stop by if you have a chance to visit Fukuoka this fall!
