[Festival Report] Asiana International Short Film Festival kicks off Nov. 5th in Seoul, South Korea. Korean movie stars gather to celebrate the 13th edition!

The 13th Asiana International Short Film Festival (AISFF) kicked off last Thursday, November 5th, at the Cine Cube Theater located in Gwanghwanmun, Seoul. Many celebrities, including Yoo Ji-tae, Ryu Hyeon-Kyeong, Festival Director Ahn Sung Ki and actors such as Pak Jung Fun were in attendance at the opening ceremony.

Korea’s maestro director Pae Chang Ho was also present to celebrate the 13th anniversary.

The ceremony started with an opening speeches from the main festival committee members, Son Sook and the Festival Director. This was followed by a performance by singers “The Barberettes.” The head of the jury was Director Kang Je Kyu (“Brotherhood” and “My Way”), who was joined by Chris Fujiwara (Film Critic and Programmer) and Laurence Raymond (Cannes Director’s Fortnight), who served as an SSFF & ASIA jury member in 2013.

A reception was held following the opening ceremony and celebrities came to talk with guests from around the world.

“The Collection from Short Shorts Film Festival” was screened at Cine Cube Theater on Sunday 8th November, with many Japanese film fans lined up to see the program.

SSFF & ASIAプログラム上映前の会場Before the screening, SSFF & ASIA Festival Director, Seigo Tono greeted the audience and spoke briefly to them, while also thanking the AISFF team. Tono explained the history of the collaboration between AISFF and SSFF & ASIA, which began in 2010.

The films included in the program were (in order of screening), “Gotham Jumble Parfait” (Dir. Yuki Saito), “A Scene” (Dir. Michitoshi Nambu), “Drifting Cloud” (Dir. Yuta Sukegawa), “Let’s Go Home!” (Dir. Takuya Matsumoto) and “Dance Dance Dance” (Dir. Ken Ochiai).
