Short Shorts Film Festival Asia (SSFF ASIA) is now entering its sixth year, and the festival committee would like to express its deepest appreciation to each and every one of you for your support.
The year 2009 began with an air of despair and desperation, as a result of a devastated world economy and its effect on the Japanese economy. However it is said that the key to changing the world is the power and energy of Asia.
In this difficult time, what actions will the international city of Tokyo take? What future does it envision and what will it do to achieve it? How quickly will it move, and where is it headed? These are questions that interest the world and the art scene with the entertainment industry being no exception.
Creative aesthetics and life culture of Tokyo in the Edo period are very much admired by artists throughout the world even today. The people of Edo had an efficient recycling system. They were a self-sufficient society leading an environmentally conscious lifestyle. Their wisdom is a source of inspiration for short film creators who knock their brains out trying to create the most meaningful and successful films.
This year again, films that are made for an excellent value, that is, short films will be sending out their shining light from Tokyo, the city with the spirit and DNA of Edo. And the film festival will become a “powerhouse” which will generate creative energy for the future of the film culture and industry of the world.
We are proud of being Japanese and Asian, and through SSFF ASIA, we will be the source of excitement and strength for the Asian film culture and the future of the film business.
SSFF ASIA, along with our “companion festival”, the “Short Shorts Film Festival 2009” in its 11th year, hopes to share with everyone the DNA of Edo. We also hope to supply you with the power for vitality and personal growth through our “powerhouse film festival”.
