Introducing the “now” of Southeast Asian short film
Academy Awards® accredited Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, one of the largest short film festivals in Asia, and the Japan Foundation Asia Center present the latest short films from Southeast Asia and explore Southeast Asian film “now.”
Achieving high levels of economic growth over recent years, Southeast Asia has become a “center of growth,” receiving much attention from other countries. To promote cultural exchange and collaboration between Japan and other fellow Asian countries, the Japan Foundation Asia Center was established in April 2014.
With the Asia Center, the film festival starts a new screening program and a symposium featuring 11 countries in Southeast Asia. This partnership will continue over the next two years. This year we will screen films from six countries, Cambodia,Indonesia,Laos, Singapore,Timor-Leste, and the Philippines as a Southeast Asia Program. We will also invite panelists from the film industries in these countries to the “Symposium on the current status and future of Southeast Asian short films.” With the screening program and the symposium, we will provide deep insight into what Southeast Asia is facing “now!”
