Discover Beauty Program
The Short Shorts Film Festival 2022 once again is proud to present our Discover Beauty Program, a program that draws attention to the natural & aesthetic beauty of Japan & its culture as we focus on the concepts of beauty around the world.
This year we start the program with “Tā Moko – Behind the Tattooed Face,” a beautiful 2019 short film from New Zealand directed by Mick Andrews & David Atkinson. The film is a documentary that introduces Bernard & Sapphire, both who want to see the re-discovery of Maori customs & culture through face tattooing.
Free online screening only in Japan through 06/30 { https://shortshorts.org/2022/en/program/cultural/t-moko-behind-the-tattooed-face/}
We will also, once again, be hosting the Discover Beauty Symposium on January 17th at 8PM (JST). This year the focus will be on the indigenous Ainu people of Northern Japan. Special guests include Hideo Akibe, a member of various Ainu Associations that promote understanding & appreciation of the Ainu people & culture. Also participating will be art historian Satomi Igarashi, Cutural Director of the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art.
