The "sensei" teaches all there is about
how to make a good short film and
the students take copious notes to
guide them in their next short film!
Absolutely one of our highlights this year is the seminar that Ms. Roberta Munroe gave tonight about how to make short films. Using her vast experience and love for short films, her lecture focused on 3 points - Story/structure, producer, & distribution. The hall was packed with note-taking young Japanese filmmakers and even festival organizers from as far away as Hokkaido, the northern most island of Japan.
She also brought 5 X 30-second PR shorts for her wonderful book "How Not To Make A short Film," which in themselves were a quick lesson on short filmmaking.
Q&A's were flying all over the place and you can bet there will be a lot that we'll do as a film festival based on what we learned from her.
Roberta has limitless energy (even with jet-lag), charm, wide-ranging knowledge of filmmaking & film festivals, and a generosity which made working with her and by her side (I was her translator) a privilege and an absolute joy. Thanks Roberta!
