Hey everyone.
Well the festival’s off & running like the well-oiled machine that it is…?! No, really. We had a great turnout for the day’s 1st program. The CG Animation programs are always rich & varied in content & this was certainly no exception. We had 2 directors come out for the post-screening Q & A session. Shunsuke Saito’s very cool “Small Garden” is a 12 minute plus short about a seed/egg like one-eyed creature’s adventure through a strange “otherworldly” universe. He was asked why he gave the creature only 1 eye & he replied that he wanted to indicate that the creature was in a half-world state & also, when he tried it out with 2 eyes, it just wasn’t cute so he stayed with just the 1 eye. It took him roughly 3 years creating this while also working at his “9 to 5″ job. Well done Shunsuke!
Director Atsushi Mishima’s “Achiraka World” is a fast, action-packed anime about an old man who wants to impress a pretty young woman so he creates a “cleaning” robot out of the parts scavenged from his junkyard. Things progress in a furious pace but not quite the way he envisioned. The 20 minute short took him just about 3 full years to make & when asked what happened to the main characters after the end of the short, he replied truthfully that he didn’t even think about his characters’ arcs after the end of this story! Who can blame him after spending 3 years making this wonderful short!
Well done & congratulations on your well-crafted & entertaining short films.
