Sunday brought a beautiful early summer breezy, sunny day & we’ve got some amazing special programs going on today. When some of the early shift staff arrived this morning at 07:30, there was already a line formed waiting to get their advanced reservation tix for the “Cinema Night with Jung Woo Sung” event & the Hollywood VFX Seminar with special guest Ian Hunter who is the leading special effects creator in Hollywood now having worked on films like “Inception” & “Interstellar” for which he won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 87th Academy Awards earlier this year.
For our SOUTHEAST ASIA PROGRAM, we had Bety Reis from East-Timor whose short doc “The Cock Fight” who told the audience during the Q&A that she did encounter resistance to film the cock fights mainly because she is a woman & you can see in the doc that basically women are not invited. But she also said that cock fights have been going on for ages in East Timor & is a culturally accepted “sport.”
Christopher de las Alas’ delightful story of woeful Peter who is forced to dress like a girl because his mother has so far only birthed boys & she REALLY wants a girl. He did tell the audience when asked that he was NOT the model for Peter but it was one of his uncles on his father’s side that was forced to dress like a girl by his grandmother because all she had were boys.
Great start to a very busy but also very excitant day here in Tokyo!
