Today’s 3rd screening had 4 sets of guests for the post-screening Q&! 1st up was director Kahoru Kawabata whose charming animated short “Between Times” was an audience favorite. The story is told from the unique perspective of a storefront clock & she told the audience it took 3 years to finally complete the film. You can easily see the dedication, passion & brilliant craft in her film. Next was Dong-ha Oh from Korea who talked about his short “Witness.” A suspense-thriller about how mis-judging a person by their looks can lead to disastrous & deadly results. He told the audience in the Q&A that he wanted to use that theme partly because the women in Korea have become heavily into plastic surgery to alter their looks. 3rd up was Joseph Hsu from Taiwan whose short “The Lobster Kid” is about a young, 13-year-old street girl who befriends a monk that helps her out of a dangerous situation. The audience was visibly surprised when Joseph told the audience that the “young girl” who played the 13-year-old lead was actually 25 years old! Now that’s acting for you! Finally the packed crowd gave a huge ovation to Micro of popular Japanese band Def Tech who wanted to challenge acting & is the lead for director Keisuke Toyoshima’s very heart-warming “Sukebo” (short in Japanese for skateboard). We got a great question from an obvious fan who asked why he didn’t have any problems speaking his lines clearly when he always stumbles on his words when he talks between song during the always packed live shows. This got a laugh from the audience & Micro & he answered that during their live show, there’s always so much energy & tension that it’s easier to rap & sing that to try & talk. He did a great job acting in the short & there’s no problem I’m sure seeing him in future projects as an actor. Thanks Micro for your participation & appearance at our festival. RESPECT MON!
