To kick-off our 3rd day, I moved to the SHIDAX CULTURE HALL in Shibuya for MC duties. This is our 1st year to screen programs here in the beautiful theater on the 8th floor.
The 1st program of the day featured 5 short films from the France Film Festival which rakes place here in Tokyo 06/26 – 06/29.
For this program we had 2 sets of guests. Producer Fabrice Preel-Cleach & Director Kristof Sanga for their short “Savage Night,” which stars award-winning Japanese actress Shinobu Terashima & was shot entirely in Japan, & Producer Alexandre Charlet came out for his film “Gueule Du Loup.”
In the Q&A, Kristof told the audience that when he visited Japan for the 1st time he fell deeply in love with this country &eventually managed to move & work here. The script he had written was set in France but after moving here, he changed the location of the story to Tokyo & was quite surprised when he sent the script to Miss Terashima’s management & she accepted the role!
Producer Charlet was asked about the significance of the wolf which figures greatly in the story of a lonely young girl & her wolf hand-puppet. he replied that although the children in France are taught that the wolf is an animal to be feared & to be careless in the wild might result with them being taken & eaten by a pack of wolves. In the short the director wanted the wolf figure to be the friend & source of consolation for Elisa who spends her days alone while her mother sleeps after working all night.
Thanks to the audience who participated in the Q&A & asked some pointed & interesting questions.
