We started today’s screening with KOREA Program at Brillia ShortShorts Theater in Yokohama. Fine shiny day during rainy season, so why don’t you come and experience cinematic moment!
We have five programs as below; Asiana International Short Film Festival Program from Korea, Special Program from Cannes, Southeast Asia Program, Save the Earth Program, and Future City Yokohama Award Program.
At the Southeast Asia Program the director of the film “For Ofelia” visited our theater and had interview on the stage. From the very beginning to the end you can enjoy retrospective and beautiful picture in this film, and that is because he used 16mm film instead of digital devices. He represents a unique family living in good old Philippine. There’s a mother who has 4 sons desperately wanting to have a daughter, and she has passion to dress up her sons as girls. The model of this mother was Christopher’s grandma. She had 8 sons (!!) and a daughter, though she lost the baby 2 weeks later after her birth.
The unique characters are one of the attractions of this film. Christopher didn’t have an audition to find actors, but he found this main roll kid actor at a school class in his mother’s home town where he had shooting this film. This boy looked so sad when he made a mistake with his subject, and it inspired Chris as “he is it! He is perfect!”
And in the program “Save the Earth” we had screening of many films from various countries with strong messages to rouse ecological action. Some films were subscribed by Japanese comedians and another by American NGO Conservation International which voices were played by Hollywood stars. We hope those messages would be alive in your heart with the memory of cinematic moment.
