" Brasilia Film Festival 2008 (Brazil)"
The best awards come when you are not expecting them. That´s why I am so happy about this audience award. Going to Tokyo to show my short film was such a great experience that it was an award in itself. Then, receiving this great recognition from the audience makes me feel that I am in the right path. It also gives me strength to start other film projects.
Asia International Competition
One day, Ji-young received a call from her ex-boyfriend, Sung-hyun. He asks her to come to his wedding. On the wedding day, her alarm clock rings insistently. Sung-hyun is not comfortable because he still cannot forget Ji-young. They each head to the wedding in that state of mind.
"San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival 2009 (USA)"
I had great time in the festival and What a pleasant suprise. It means a lot to me because the prize came from the Audience. I will make a good movie so I can come again. Thank you.
Japan Competition
A stylish and entertaining jidaigeki action drama, which incorporates a taste of Japanimation and motifs from "hide and go seek". The director rose to the challenge of making a film with high quality images, action and visual effects fit to be shown in theaters anywhere in the world.
I want to express my gratitude to the cast and production staff of my film "Ogre of the Red Moon - Kakure-Oni" and also to the audiences who watched my film during the festival. A movie finally comes alive when people watch the film and have some sort of reaction to it. I'm constantly thinking about how the audience will enjoy my films so to be chosen by the audience is very gratifying.
The film I made 5 years ago while still a film student in L.A. titled "Triangulation Point" which won the "Audience Award" at the SSFF was a huge source of confidence and opened the road to filmmaking for me. It also gave me the impetus to rise above to the next level.
This film was made with the support of the MR Pre-Viz Project. With this award, my hope is that the MR-Pre-Viv Project will also be able to raise the bar on their technology which made making this film possible.
STOP! Global Warming Competition
Creeping up on silent footsteps, holding it's breath, the killer comes to silence your screams.
I'm surprised and so grateful to have received the Audience Award on top of having the opportunity to take part in the SSFF two years in a row. My short from last year titled "I have gas" tried to tell the message of starting to fight global warming by first thinking about it's effects from a child's point of view. This year, taking things a step further, I wanted to create an entertaining piece while at the same time telling how we can fight global warming by direct action. The Audience Award is an irreplacable gift. It shows that it's possible to tell a message such as the deep and weighty issues of global warming in an entertaining manner. In our extemely busy lives here in Japan, it's difficult to take big measures but we can take small actions in our daily lives. If many people take that one little step, that becomes a tsunami and the future can change. I will continue to make films while keeping firm in the determination to fight global warming so that this award will not have been awarded in vain.
Finally, I would like to thank on behalf of the film's production the SSFF staff and the audience. Thank you so very much.
