[NEWS] Award Ceremony! The World’s First George Lucas Award given to Singapore’s Talented filmmaker Yee Wei Chai!
The Award Ceremony of the 20th Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA) was held at Meiji Jingu Kaikan on June 17th and jurors of each competition such as Takashi Miike (Film Director), JJ Sonny Chiba (Actor), Rei Kikukawa (Actress), Shoko Nakagawa and other celebrities appeared on the red carpet and on stage to present the award and to celebrate the anniversary.
SSFF & ASIA 2018 started on June 4th (Mon) and continues until June 24th (Sun), and is held at 8 venues in Tokyo. The festival received over 10,000 short film submissions from over 130 countries and regions, and about 250 are being shown this year.
Selected from the Best Short award winners of the 3 official competitions, the world’s first George Lucas Award, the Grand Prix of SSFF & ASIA 2018, was given to 『Benjamin‘s Last Day At Katong Swimming Complex』 by Singaporean director Yee Wei Chai. This short film will become eligible for nomination at the Academy Awards next year.
Please refer to the following results of awards including official competition that jurors appraised as the variety in the International Competition grabbed our attention, and the dramatic expression of children was very inspiring in the Asia International Competition. The non-live action films in the Japan Competition were particularly powerful.
