For today’s program, the best short and J-WAVE award winner of “Save the Earth” Competition, director Helene Moltke-Leth from Danmark of “Running through Life” and the director of “Bloop,” Cara Cusumano from USA came to the Brillia Short Shorts Theater to talk about their films on this sunny Saturday.
“Bloop”
Cara Cusumano brought her short “The Bloop” from New York. She told the audience that it took nearly 2 & 1/2 years to complete the short. The short about a mysterious sound from he both of the ocean was not only a visually intriguing but the audio soundtrack was very well crafted & added a mysterious & foreboding atmosphere to the film. When asked by the audience member about what she really thinks about the sound, she said, “Well, now you can find out a lot on youtube now, and most people think that it was the sound of unknown creature, but scientists say that it was a geographical phenomena. I think it was unknown creature.”
“Running through Life”
Helene Moltke-Leth from Denmark represented “Running Through Life,” about a modern working woman running through the city at night to expel the stresses in her life & question the meaning of her life in this modern world. When an audience member asked the director about the meaning of a man’s voice over woman’s voice, the director said, “I was one of the first female DJ’s, and as a DJ, you mix two different sound/music, and I wanted to try something like this in this film. So, it didn’t mean so much in the story, but it was something more artistic gesture for the film.
Both directors thanked the audience for their presence tonight, as well as thanking the festival for screening their films in Japan.
“Save the Earth” program will be shown again here in Yokohama on June 16th, so if you missed it today, please come and watch the next time!
