Our first day of screenings here at SHIDAX SHIBUYA CULTURE HALL turned out to be a rainy day but that didn’t keep our short film fans from coming out & enjoying our selected short films from around the world.
ASIA INTERNATIONAL & JAPAN PROGRAM 1
We began our first day here at Shidax with the Asia International & Japan Program 1 which features short from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, & Japan.
The director & cast from “Every Time We Say Goodbye” came out again following our first Q&Q together last week at Laforet. That’s dedication.
We also had director Yusaku Okamoto who also came out at Laforet but this time he brought popular Japanese comedian “YUTTI” who plays a key part in the short. He told the audience that his manager asked him one day if he wanted to star in a movie. YUTTI expressed surprise when he found out that he WASN’T the character that wakes up one morning to find that his breasts had grown from A-cup to D-cup!
ASIANA INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM from KOREA
For this program we had the always delightful Kristin Ji, chief programmer of the festival come out from Korea to give the audience a rundown on their festival which will hold its 14th edition this year in November. She brought 5 outstanding shorts from last November’s festival & director Hyung-Dong Ko came with her to talk about his coming-of-age short titled “Boyhood.” Hyung-Dong told the audience that he based all the little incidents in the story on his own childhood.
ASIA INTERNATIONAL & JAPAN PROGRAM 8
For the final program today here at SHIDAX we had director Taishi Shiode come out for his short about a break-up titled “A Happy Lie.” He brought along his star Yūki Hoshino for the post-screening Q&A. He told the audience that the roughly 15-minute one-take short took 2 days of rehearsals & 7 takes on the 3rd & final shooting day. It was in the middle of July & shot in an actual apartment with creaky floors so it WAS a long, hot, hard shoot but the result is a very real short about a couple on the outs.
A highly successful 1st day of screenings even on a rainy day here at SHUBUYA SHIDAX.
