[Interview] What is Asiana International Short Film Festival?

2017/05/18

In SSFF & ASIA 2017, we have Asiana International Short Film Fesitival Program.

With “national actor” Sung-ki Ahn serving as Festival Director, Asiana International Short Film Festival, one of the largest festivals of its kind in South Korea, is celebrating its 15th edition this year. We proudly present a special selection of their shorts.

Ms. Kristin Ji who is the programmer of AISFF introduces AISFF and a program in SSFF & ASIA 2017.

Q1. What is Asiana International Short Film Festival? Object, history and unique programs etc.

Asiana International Short Film Festival(AISFF) is the one and genuine international competitive short film festival in Korea, searching a new territory and exit for short film, and this year we celebrates our 15th anniversary. AISFF is the place where all the shorts from the world are coming across, communicating and fairly competing. AISFF will be the best place to see the newest trend of world cinema through eyes of short films, the future of cinema and the cinematic variety and cultural diversity. With the help of festival committee members who are the grand figures in Korean film industry, AISFF has been grown up to help short films to secure a firm position as the basis and nutrients of film industry in Korea. And with its unique festival program, “In the Air Program,” and a production supporting system, “AISFF Fund Project”, AISFF has been providing a great opportunity to short filmmakers as an alternative arena going beyond their local and national boundaries, for greater international audience awareness.

Q2 What is the highlight of your program to be screened at SSFF & ASIA. Which film in the program you would like to recommend most?

We will introduce 5 Korean shorts at SSFF&ASIA, and I am sure that you will see the trend of recent Korean shorts and noteworthy young Korean filmmakers. 1 Kilogram, directed by PARK Young-ju, had selected at Cannes Film Festival, CINEFONDATION in 2016, and  The Empty, directed by JEONG Da-hee, had selected at various film festivals including Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Melbourne International Animated Film Festival and so on. Most of all, do not miss Fly To the Sky, directed by YI Ok-seop & KOO Kyo-hwan, they are the rising star of Korean Independent Film industry.

Q3 Please give us the message to Japanese audience.

We hope you all enjoy our Korean shorts, and it is a chance to fall for the charm of Korean Shorts.
