Daisuke Tsutsumi, who worked for Pixar Animation Studio, decided to make his own animation creating company, TONKO HOUSE, when he saw children having a deep discussion in San Francisco after watching his first directing short “The Dam Keeper”.
He screened “The Dam Keeper” and “Moom”, which is created this year. “Moom” was a new challenge for him, because it was originally a picture book. He said the short “Moom” became a piece of work that means a lot to him, since he could add his taste and share feelings with the character in the process.
Now he is working on making a movie of “The Dam Keeper”, and willing to work more with Japanese animation creators. He said, he wants to have more Japanese people willing to create animation films in the states. And for real, there was a high school girl who raised her voice in Q&A, said she wants to work for TONKO HOUSE and asked for an advice.
It fascinates me to see the future of TONKO HOUSE, how it will be changing Japanese animation industry.
“Moom” will be screening in CG Animation Program 2. Please come and enjoy, so you can have a taste of Tsutsumi’s animation world!
